BIOGRAPHY:
Denise C. May was appointed to the Nassau County Attorney position in April 2022, after serving as the Assistant County Attorney. Prior to her service in Nassau County, she served as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of St. Augustine. Ms. May received her Juris Doctor from Barry University School of Law, graduating cum laude. While there, she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Environmental & Earth Law Journal. She received her B.S. in Computer Networking Technology from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Ms. May is admitted to practice in all state courts and the Middle District of Florida.
Ms. May has focused her career in advising and serving as the legal representation to local governments. She is an accomplished, board-certified attorney in City, County, and Local Government Law with expertise in all aspects of local government law, including Public Hearings, Constitutional Claims, Environmental and Land Use Law, Civil Litigation, Public Policy, and Procurement. Her primary role as the County Attorney is to act as the legal advisory to the Board of County Commissioners and providing legal services for the County and its Constitutional Officers in matters relating to their official duties.
